5 Day Black & White Photo Challenge- Day 5

pinkflowers

Since Spring is just around the corner I thought I’d share a photo I took of these flowers in our garden. They started blooming on Sunday and it made its grand appearance on Monday when we received some rain. I’ve been a bit obsessed with photographing flowers but I just had to capture how beautiful they looked after the rain. If anyone knows the name of these flowers please let me know, I’d really appreciate it. 🙂

Thank you once again Ruchi for nominating me to participate in the 5 Day Black and White Photo Challenge. It was so much fun!

The rules are to post 5 black and white photos for 5 days. We are to nominate a person each day that we post.

Today I nominate, graydaysandcoffee and Mum… how much longer? The challenge is not mandatory and can be refused. Hope you accept to join the fun!

5 Day Black & White Photo Challenge- Day 4

On the Edge

bird

This photo is one of the “best” photos I’ve taken from a bird that lives in our tree. I’ve seen the whole family fly around a few times by the tree but by the time I run inside to get my camera it’s too late to snap a photo of them. So about two weeks ago I saw one on top of our house and luckily I had my camera in hand.

Hope you like it! 🙂

Writing 201: Day 9

Today’s assignment:
Prompt- Landscape
Form- Found poetry
Device- Enumeration

Beach

Conscious of nothing except the blankness of the page in front

The day was still cold and clear

With a faint feeling of satisfaction

The sun blazed down upon them

But only for something worthwhile

The touch of the faint breeze

That was part of the attraction

This was by far, in my opinion, one of the hardest assignments but I tried. I’m not happy with it at all but I decided to post it anyway. I got random sentences from the book 1984 by George Orwell.

Wisdom Tree

As she walked the streets of Downtown her mind became cluttered with awful thoughts. Her whole world became dark from what seemed to happen from one second to the next. Her husband divorced her, her children were ashamed of her, and she lost her job. She couldn’t take anymore downfalls in her life so she became hopeless.

Spring came early so she decided to take a walk to clear her mind. She couldn’t figure out why the sudden change in her life. She had it all: the wealth, the love, the family, her dream job. But now it was all gone.

On her walk she decided to take a route she had never been on. She wanted to discover new places, meet new people, find new luck. It couldn’t hurt to try something new now since there was nothing left to lose.

She became tired so she stopped under a tree to rest. A sudden calm took over her whole body as she relaxed under the shade. Her state of mind became clear and she felt inner peace. All her troubles disappeared in an instance and her lips formed a smile. She was confused and afraid of what was causing her to feel so much joy.

That night she couldn’t stop thinking of what she had experienced. She desperately wanted to tell someone the discovery she made but everyone had kept their distance from her.

The next morning, she decided to take a walk again. This time she took a different route from the day before. She didn’t want to find that tree again in her path after the effect it had on her.

As she kept walking, she realized the tree was there once again at the end of the route. She was confused as to how this tree ended up appearing before her. She rubbed her eyes in disbelief and hoped it was just a dream. As much as she wanted to turn around and walk away something kept calling her to the tree.

She sat down and once again felt inner peace. Tears started rolling down her cheeks uncontrollably. It was tears of joy and sadness, so many emotions she couldn’t describe. Slowly, she started talking to the tree, confessing her darkest secrets and letting all her bottled feelings out.

As the sun was setting a wind blew her way. She saw an old man standing before her and held his hand out to her. Spontaneously she stood up and held his hand. This man looked at her in the eye and said, “My dear, I’ve seen your sorrow and felt your pain. No person shall ever fall into the darkness for we all deserve a shining light. Your chance to rise will come again so take good care of it.”

She fell on her knees and sobbed quietly.

As she looked up to thank the man for his kind words she realized he was gone. Not a trace of footsteps were seen anywhere for he had disappeared. She slowly rose and walked toward the tree. She knew her faith had changed all thanks to this wisdom tree.

Mary’s Roses

The melancholy tune filled the room with sadness. Mary couldn’t find sense to anything around her. She just wanted to bury her face into the pillow until there was no more tears left to shed. The sweet memories made her heart ache with every passing moment. She missed his touch, his laughter, his smile.

John always treated Mary like a princess. He made sure she received flowers weekly as a reminder of how much he loved her. Every Wednesday of every week there was an early knock at the door which meant fresh flowers had arrived from John.

But this Wednesday she didn’t hear a knock at the door. Immediately she knew something was wrong.

Mary grabbed her cell phone and text John, Is everything okay?

Five minutes passed and no response. That was unlike John because he had always been so tentative to her messages. Mary decided to call his phone but she kept shaking like a leave. She hoped to hear his husky voice but his phone went straight to voicemail.

She couldn’t wait at home for his call so she decided to drive and find him.

As Mary drove past his home she noticed his car wasn’t there. He probably left early to work, she thought. She continued her way toward the route John usually takes to his job. As soon as she made the next right turn she noticed the street was closed. Mary’s face turned white as a ghost. She immediately got off her car and ran to the scene only to find John’s car totaled. She couldn’t believe her eyes as she saw John’s body be put into the ambulance.

It had been months since the incident and Mary’s pain didn’t get easier. Seeing the vase of flowers on her dining table made John’s presence all too real. The last vase of roses that John had sent her were still fresh and blooming. Not a single petal had fallen and not a single petal had dried.

Mary knew John wanted her to know that even after death he would always remind her how much he loved her.

Every Wednesday of every week Mary still heard the doorbell ring.

Today’s assignment:
Prompt: Drawer
Form: Ode
Device: Apostrophe

O my dear friend
I trust thee
                               For all these things
You hold dear to me

You know so much
And that’s what makes up
                               Our special bond

Every detail you’ve kept
All those secrets
                              I have made

In every level
we are connected
                        For every paper
You have collected

It’s what attracts me back
To thy dark and deep
                           Surroundings

O my dear friend
Please wait for me
                           For I’ll keep going
Back to thee

Rain

Waking up to the sound of rain falling Julie woke up with a smile. It had been months since it last rained so she had to go out and see it for herself. She changed her clothes quickly, put her jacket on, and headed out the door. As soon as Julie stepped out the door, a strong wind came and slammed the door shut. She stood there enjoying the summer breeze as it caressed her face.

Julie wanted to enjoy this moment as much as possible so she decided to go back inside and grab a cup of coffee. When Julie stepped back outside she looked around to see if anyone else had noticed the first rain in what seemed to be years, but no one was in sight. She sat on her porch as she sipped her cup of coffee.

The wind kept coming stronger and stronger but she didn’t mind it. Julie was then startled by her dog who ran out of her backyard barking at the sky. She looked around to see if anyone was passing by but not a soul was seen.

Her dog then ran to her lap and started whimpering. Julie held her dog closed to her fearing for what was to come. She looked up at the sky and seen how dark the clouds became. Her heart started beating fast like if she had just finished running a marathon. Leaves started falling from the trees and flying everywhere. She couldn’t believe her eyes as she seen a swirl form in the sky.

A tornado? It couldn’t be, she thought.

Julie ran inside into her basement to hide with her dog. From there on out all was dark and waited until the wind had calmed.

Hours later all she heard was silence. She knew it was time to step outside and see the damage done by this beast. As Julie walked out the door, there was nothing in sight. All was gone except her home. She looked up at the sky and was amazed at nature’s beauty. These beautiful clouds were left behind to be admired. Julie grabbed her cup of coffee once again and sat on her porch to enjoy this moment.

Writing 201- Day 7

Today’s assignment:
Prompt: Fingers
Form: Prose Poetry
Device: Assonance

These hands have learned so much across the years.

They have learned a thing or two here and there.

These fingers have achieved most goals that I didn’t think possible.

They have met a guitar, a flute, a keyboard, and a steering wheel.

These fingers have mastered each instrument and have impressed me as they move.

Once they see the crack of dawn they know its time for work.

They work and work and work for they have more people to care for.

These fingers have grown a gentle touch to hold and guide such innocent ones.

They’ve learned to nurture, protect, and hold when needed by these tiny souls.

My hands, I thank, and look at you, I am so blessed for all you do.

Writing 201 & 5 Photos 5 Stories

Today’s assignment:

sisters

Thank you, Sister

You are kind,

You are wise.

You make everything

seem alright.

Your strong character

gave me strength,

When nothing seemed

to be in place.

But when I saw

You fall,

I didn’t know

who to call.

You became so fragile

in my eyes;

You were hopeless,

I couldn’t come up with any lies.

To tell you

We would get through this,

Bad times just

never seem to miss.

You got up

and fought hard,

Not an easy road

one would guard.

You surprised me

once again,

To see how much

a human being could take.

I wish I could be

as strong as you.

You always tell me,

I am too.

I wish you knew all these years,

Because of you I have faced my fears.
